Online Courses
Online ground schools are available as a primary or supplemental means of obtaining the required aviation knowledge.
Whether you attend a 14 CFR Part 61 or Part 141 flight school, online ground school courses (both 14 CFR Part 61 and 141 approved) are available as a primary or supplemental means of obtaining the aviation knowledge that is tested in the written exam and oral exam portion of a checkride. For some, an online ground school can supplement the knowledge their flight school provides them via their own online or in person ground school.
There are numerous good online ground schools that teach everything you will need to know in order to pass your written exam. Many of these providers offer a free trial of their Private Pilot Course to see for yourself if theirs is the program for you. We recommend doing this with your narrowed list of online ground schools. If a provider doesn’t offer a free trial, they might have videos on YouTube that will give you a sense of their teaching style so you can assess if it is compatible with your learning style.
14 CFR Part 61 online ground schools require your flight instructor to sign an endorsement noting that your are ready to take the appropriate written test while 14 CFR Part 141 online ground schools are approved to endorse you for the appropriate written test without your flight instructor needing to do so.
